Johnson Controls Added to Calvert Social Index for Leadership in Sustainability

Calvert, a leader in sustainable and responsible investing, created the Calvert Social Index as a benchmark for measuring the performance of the 1,000 largest companies in the U.S., represented by stocks listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX.

MILWAUKEE — Johnson Controls has been added to the Calvert Social Index, a broad-based, rigorously constructed benchmark for measuring the performance of U.S.-based socially responsible companies.

The Calvert Social Index Committee notes that Johnson Controls "is on a trajectory toward sustainability leadership, providing products and services that will help make a cleaner environment, as well as a more efficient society and economy."

"Inclusion in the Calvert Social Index is a testament to our company’s long-standing commitment to sustainability," said Stephen Roell, chairman and chief executive officer of Johnson Controls. "This recognition is due to the dedication of our 140,000 employees around the world who are focused on being socially responsible."

Calvert, a leader in sustainable and responsible investing, created the Calvert Social Index as a benchmark for measuring the performance of the 1,000 largest companies in the U.S., represented by stocks listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ and AMEX. Calvert conducts a social audit in a number of categories including products, environment, workplace and integrity. Companies that meet its criteria are recommended for inclusion. Calvert believes companies that operate with integrity toward their employees, communities and the environment are better positioned for success.
