BEDFORD, TX — The Automotive Service Association (ASA) has created a three-hour seminar, “You Have the Right to Repair,” which will be offered at several ASA affiliated events this year, including Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS) in Las Vegas on Nov. 6.

The course will feature live demonstrations of several OEM Web sites, showing the content and functionality of these sites, as well as processes for effectively managing use of the Web sites. The seminar will conclude with an analysis of current service information availability issues.

Taught by Bill Haas, AAM, ASA’s vice president of service repair markets, the course has been approved by the Automotive Management Institute (AMI). Attendees will receive six credits toward the Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) designation.

Haas is an AMI-approved instructor and former shop owner with more than 25 years of experience in the automotive service industry. His key areas of responsibility at ASA include the Mechanical Division operations, education and training, and relationships with automobile manufacturers. Haas received the AAM designation in 1996 and has been ASE certified since 1976.

“Today, shops are able to access OEM service information, training and diagnostic tools through these sites,” said Haas. “The availability of these three critical elements have challenged technicians for many years. Those obstacles have been removed and now it is time for the industry to use this information to be more effective in repairing vehicles to the customer’s satisfaction.”
