MONROE, MI — Tenneco Automotive’s Monroe brand of shocks and struts has introduced a new 50,000-mile ride-control replacement recommendation for vehicle owners who want to ensure desired ride and handling characteristics.

The new 50,000-mile recommendation, which covers domestic and import passenger cars, vans, light trucks and sport utility vehicles, is the result of research into the wear-out of shocks and struts under a variety of common driving conditions. The company said replacing ride control components after 50,000 miles can help improve vehicle ride and handling and can protect the integrity of other “Safety Triangle” undercar parts. The “Safety Triangle” refers to the interconnected system of components — including tires, brakes and ride control products — that help determine a vehicle’s steering, stopping and stability characteristics.

“Shocks and struts are largely invisible to the vehicle owner, but they can and do wear out under normal driving conditions,” said Richard Alameddine, vice president of marketing for Tenneco Automotive. “It’s our responsibility as the industry’s leading ride control brand to remind consumers that these components need to be inspected at least every year, and replaced after 50,000 miles for improved ride and handling.”

In addition to delivering enhanced ride comfort, shock absorbers and struts help maintain consistent, firm traction by absorbing road-induced impacts and reducing vehicle pitch and roll. Worn shocks and struts can lead to degraded steering, stopping and stability performance under many driving situations, according to Monroe.
