Former Michigan Governor Named Next NAM Chief Exec

The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has named a successor to its outgoing president, Jerry Jasinowski. The NAM Executive Committee chose former Michigan governor John Engler as its next president and CEO.

WASHINGTON — The National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) has named a successor to its outgoing president, Jerry Jasinowski. The NAM Executive Committee chose former Michigan governor John Engler as its next president and CEO.

NAM represents 14,000 members (including 10,000 small and mid-sized companies) and 350 member associations serving manufacturers and employees in every industrial sector and all 50 states.

Richard Dauch, NAM chairman and co-founder, chairman and CEO of American Axle & Manufacturing in Detroit, Mich., said Engler’s track record in Michigan shows that he understands manufacturers, their workers and the importance of manufacturing to the U.S.

Outgoing NAM President Jerry Jasinowski reaffirmed Dauch’s sentiment in saying: “John Engler’s record demonstrates a unique combination of innovative leadership, management know-how and the public and business policy sophistication that make him an excellent choice to be the next NAM President.”

“I am very excited about the prospect of leading the NAM and its 14,000 large and small manufacturer members. The NAM is the premier voice for manufacturing in America, and the health of manufacturing is essential to economic growth and job opportunities for American workers,” said Governor Engler.

NAM engaged in a comprehensive search both within NAM and nationally in selecting its next chief executive. His nomination will be formally ratified by the full NAM Board of Directors at their September board meeting, and he will assume his new role on October 1.
