BETHESDA, MD — Consolidation within the U.S. automotive parts and accessories industry increased in 2003 after three consecutive years of decline, according to new data reported in the 2004/2005 Aftermarket Factbook published by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).
A total of 48 reported aftermarket mergers and acquisitions took place in 2003, increasing 9.1 percent from 2002. The overall value of the deals increased as well, according to AAIA, from $6.9 billion in 2002 to $7.8 billion in 2003. Aftermarket manufacturers accounted for 77 percent of the industry’s mergers and acquisitions with 37 deals.
