LISBON — Michael Cardone Jr., president and CEO of CARDONE Industries and a vice president on the MEMA Board of Directors, recently explained the U.S. remanufacturing industry to FIGIEFA (Federation of International Automotive Aftermarket Distributors). The presentation was made at the group’s annual meeting in Lisbon, Portugal. FIGIEFA is a European governing body that represents 27 national trade associations from 21 countries.

Cardone’s intent was to educate European automotive parts distributors on what remanufactured parts can bring to their businesses and to learn why remanufacturing has grown in the United States. After providing an overview of the entire U.S. remanufacturing industry, he gave an in-depth review of automotive remanufacturing, including a description of the U.S. vehicle parc, or population. In an important part of the speech, Cardone shared how automotive remanufacturing has grown to be such a significant part of the U.S. aftermarket. He followed with current trends and the future of remanufacturing in the U.S. and globally.

The presentation closed by noting the many differences between the U.S. and European aftermarket, but Cardone acknowledged that both face many of the same trends and issues. Opportunity exists for Europe’s independent aftermarket for remanufactured products – now and in the future. According to the company’s president, “that is why CARDONE is investing in Europe.”
