PHILADELPHIA, PA — Recon Automotive Remanufacturers will make its debut on the small screen this weekend. The company will be featured on an upcoming episode of “Horsepower TV” which airs on Spike TV Saturdays at 1 pm (EST/PST), with an encore presentation on Sundays at noon.

The show will highlight Recon Automotive’s engine blueprinting capabilities as Joe Giove, supervisor of Recon’s High Performance Engine Assembly and Dyno Testing Department, appears on the program and builds a 450 horsepower, 455c.i. V-8 engine for a 1969 Oldsmobile Cutlass convertible.

The engine rebuild will air on Horsepower TV on July 10 and again on July 11.

RTM Productions, which produces Horsepower TV for the Spike Television Network, videotaped Giove building the engine at Recon in April. Horsepower TV host Joe Elmore toured Recon’s manufacturing facility, including dedicated areas for engine machining, teardown, assembly and dyno testing.

The producers of Horsepower TV gave Recon carte blanche in determining the performance specifications and components to be used in the engine assembly. “For this street and strip build-up, we decided to significantly boost the horsepower from 250 HP to 450 HP, with 570 ft.-lbs. of torque,” says Giove.

The components Recon used to build the engine included Edelbrock heads; Comp Cams camshaft, rocker arm and push rods; and hardware supplied by ARP. Recon furnished the engine block, cranks, pistons, balancer and tinwear. All of the machining was done by Recon. When RTM finished taping this segment of the program, Recon shipped the engine to RTM’s production company in Madison, Tenn., where the engine will be installed in the Cutlass.
