BEDFORD, TEXAS — As a prelude to this year’s Congress of Automotive Repair and Service (CARS), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will host a special session to discuss the implementation of the original equipment manufacturers’ service information Web sites. The session will take place Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Flamingo Las Vegas.
Several OEMs will be present to provide live demonstrations of their Web sites. In addition, the EPA will present its plan for a formal audit of all the automakers Web sites.
“Technicians and shop owners are encouraged to attend this session to hear the very latest on the implementation of the OEM Web sites required by EPA and California Air Resources Board (CARB) regulations. In addition, this session will provide technicians the opportunity to ask questions and share their real-world experience in using the sites,” said Holly Pugliese, policy analyst for the EPA.
In September 2002, the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers, the Association of International Automobile Manufacturers and the Automotive Service Association signed an agreement ensuring automakers would provide non-emissions and emissions service information, tools, tool information and training information to independent repairers. This information was made readily available through the vehicle manufacturers’ service repair Web sites last year.
“CARS has always had a rich history of bringing independent repair facilities and industry representatives together to discuss important issues,” said Bill Haas, ASA’s vice president of service repair markets. “The EPA session furthers that tradition. It is important for every technician attending events during Industry Week to make time to attend this timely and informative event.”
CARS 2004 will be held Nov. 4-6 at the Flamingo Las Vegas. The premier event of ASA’s mechanical division, CARS will feature seven technical courses and three management courses taught by the industry’s leading instructors. Complete convention information, including online registration, is available at the CARS Web site, www.CARSonline.org.
