Spicer Chassis Products Announces Joe Gibbs Racing Sponsorship

MCHENRY, IL – Affinia Under Vehicle Group and Spicer Chassis Products have teamed up with Joe Gibbs Racing to provide racing chassis products for the NEXTEL Cup and Busch Series programs.

“The Spicer relationship with Joe Gibbs Racing is an extension of a long-standing partnership with Affinia,” said Ken Myers, brand manager for Spicer Chassis Products. “We’re proud to be involved with this championship team and look forward to working together to enhance and develop our product line.” Joe Gibbs Racing began using Spicer Chassis Products for this year’s Daytona 500.

“Joe Gibbs Racing was looking to further expand its chassis development to extract the last bits of performance from our race cars and set ups,” said David Holden, research and development engineer for Joe Gibbs Racing. “Spicer Chassis Products are ‘drop-in’ for Joe Gibbs Racing, meaning that we are able to swap out product and run without any problems. This has allowed our team to focus on making our cars faster, rather than working through a development problem with a new supplier.”

Spicer Chassis racing ball joints and tie rod ends utilize the latest technology and offer lower friction and superior performance. The upper and lower ball joints are available in ½ inch short and ½ long specifications to provide flexibility from track to track. Additionally, Spicer Chassis Products provide a five-pound weight reduction within the race cars. The team at Joe Gibbs Racing has found that the Spicer Chassis Products have integrated very rapidly into their Car of Tomorrow Program, which made its debut at the Bristol race this spring.

WIX Filters, another member of the Affinia Group, has also worked with Joe Gibbs Racing to develop air, fuel, oil and carbon monoxide filtration systems

“We’re excited about the level of enthusiasm in the early stages of our relationship,” said Holden. “Spicer products are developed as top-shelf parts that are available to everyone in racing and we look forward to working together to further develop this great racing product line.”
