Eaton’s HD 4-Speed EV Transmission Receives Award

Eaton was recognized with the 2023 Top 100 Players of China's New Automotive Supply Chain" by Gasgoo automotive news in China.

Eaton as recognized with the “2023 Top 100 Players of China’s New Automotive Supply Chain” award for its heavy-duty four-speed electric vehicle (EV) transmission by Gasgoo, a prominent automotive publication in China. The award was presented during the fifth annual Gasgoo Awards ceremony in Shanghai.

Bo Yang, president of Eaton Mobility Group APAC, expressed his gratitude for the distinction, emphasizing the significance of Eaton’s technology in the industry. “Our heavy-duty four-speed EV transmission was selected over numerous technologies from competitors, which highlights just how impactful one of our latest EV technologies has been to the industry,” said Yang.

The Gasgoo Awards aim to identify and promote exceptional companies and technologies across various sectors, including intelligent driving, powertrain electrification and artificial intelligence, among others. These awards serve as a platform to highlight innovation and leadership within the automotive industry, contributing to its growth and progression.

Eaton’s award-winning heavy-duty four-speed EV transmission addresses a key challenge faced by single-speed drive commercial vehicles, which struggle to balance efficiency at high speeds with the need for increased torque at lower speeds and during launch. The transmission expands the vehicle’s battery range, enabling better performance on inclines and higher efficiency at highway speeds. This is achieved without necessarily using a larger motor, often allowing for a smaller, more economical option, which is particularly advantageous for commercial EV operators, the company said.

The use of multi-speed transmissions in electrified commercial vehicles can relieve stress on the battery and electric motor, leading to enhanced performance and range while maintaining efficient use of parts, according to Eaton.
