Hankook & Company Partners with AWS, Snowflake for AI Platform

Company seeks to establish a data-driven culture and create more business value by enhancing data accessibility.

Hankook & Company Co., Ltd., the holding company of global tire maker Hankook Tire, and its subsidiary, Hankook Tire & Technology are accelerating the development of an integrated AI data platform through collaboration with data cloud computing service companies Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Snowflake.

Hankook & Company is collaborating with AWS and Snowflake to establish an optimized data analysis infrastructure, incorporating cloud-based solutions and platform expertise. The project aims to build an integrated data analysis environment utilizing the latest artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies. The project will leverage AWS’s data lake environment and analysis infrastructure, including Sagemaker and AutoML, and have Snowflake as a data warehouse to promote cloud migration and digital transformation.

AWS provides IT services for computing, storage, databases, analysis, artificial intelligence, IoT, and security to enterprises. Snowflake, headquartered in Montana, USA, is a cloud-based SaaS software that helps efficiently store, process, and analyze large volumes of data. Snowflake is also known for being invested in by Warren Buffett, and entered the Korean market by establishing a local branch in November 2021.

Currently, Hankook & Company is carrying out a project to build an integrated data analysis platform in a cloud environment. This platform will provide an environment for collecting and integrating both internal data such as research and development, production, and quality data from Hankook Tire, as well as external data such as mobility data and Voice of Customer (VOC) data. The platform will allow for the integrated analysis of this data.

Hankook & Company plans to utilize the newly built platform as a tool to enhance tire performance and quality. In particular, it will integrate and analyze data from performance tests and customer feedback for their electric vehicle tires, the Hankook “iON” series, to improve their performance. In addition, the company will use integrated analysis of vehicle operation data and external data to develop autonomous driving technology. Hankook & Company also aims to increase the efficiency of new product development and address quality issues through analysis of manufacturing data. The company, collectively and regardless of the locations of its subsidiaries and employees, will be able to utilize an integrated platform to freely access data, identify new business opportunities, achieve strategic goals, and enhance competitiveness through data exchange and technology collaboration with external companies.

Hankook & Company’s chief digital officer (CDO) and chief information officer (CIO), Seong-jin Kim, stated, “With the development of generative AI, AI is passing through an inflection point, there is a need for a platform that can collect and freely use internal and external data to apply it to businesses,” and that “by utilizing the excellent technology and solutions of Amazon Web Services and Snowflake, we will maximize our AI capabilities and accelerate our journey to enhance product competitiveness in areas such as electric vehicle and smart tires.”

Meanwhile, Hankook & Company plans to promote digital innovation across the entire value chain by creating a platform where employees can make small innovations in a system-based work environment while also fostering data-driven analysis and optimization, applying the latest AI technologies, and automating processes.
