SSI to provide suspension components for BUVs to deliver hope in the developing world through rural transport.

SuperSprings International (SSI) announced its support of the Institute for Affordable Transportation, Indianapolis-based non-profit organization, with suspension components for all Basic Utility Vehicles (BUVs) now built and shipped worldwide.

When a rural community gets connected with a BUV, it can change almost everything — from access to healthcare, food, and marketplaces, to giving children in those communities better access to school and education, BUVs change lives, SSI says.

“The BUV has been designed from the ground up to be rugged, affordable, and easy to operate and maintain. Our partnership with SSI delivers a superior design for our suspension,” said Institute for Affordable Transportation’s Executive Director, Will Austin. “The SumoSpring offers us many advantages including increased driver comfort, enhanced durability, and long life which allows BUVs to deliver hope in the developing world through rural transport.”

Austin and his team provide a simple, low cost, and highly practical vehicle that is entirely based on the needs of the community it serves. That means a solution with longevity and durability as primary focuses where the vehicle is as tough as the terrain it’s made for, according to SSI. BUVs are designed for a wide range of countries so there are varying needs and solutions that make sense. One country may need to have something like a truck bed to haul food and water to communities that live tens of miles from the source. In another, the greatest need is getting crafted goods and crops to market in order for the community to create a revenue stream.

The vision of the BUV team is to create a literal vehicle to aid commerce and a higher standard of living. In these communities, for every dollar invested in basic mobility, there’s a potential yield of between $4-$8 in economic returns.

“More than anything else at SSI, we’re passionate about people and making life’s journey better for everyone however we can,” says SSI President, Adam Weisner. “This is engrained in the fabric of our company, and supporting an incredible organization like BUV is an honor. Will and the team are enriching the lives of those that don’t have easy access to vehicles like we do here in the US and we’re proud to be a small part of that.”
