Clarios Announces $550M Investment In Advanced Battery Solutions

Clarios to Invest $550M In AGM Battery Production

Company’s Optima brand launches lithium powersport battery line at SEMA.

Clarios, a global provider of advanced, low-voltage transportation batteries, is investing approximately $550 million to expand its global production capacity of absorbent glass mat (AGM) batteries. AGM batteries support the increase in vehicle electrification including start-stop, hybrid and fully electric vehicles.

This global investment will nearly double Clarios’ capacity in North America, supporting growing AGM battery demand. The investment also includes more than $150 million to expand AGM capacity in Europe and builds upon the recent start-up of an additional advanced battery plant in China in early October 2022.

“Clarios has decades of experience as a battery innovator, developer and manufacturer,” said Mark Wallace, Clarios CEO. “This investment in our leading AGM technology will ensure our OE and aftermarket customers have the very best and most capable batteries to handle all electrical and safety functions for all types of vehicles well into the future.”

Building on Clarios’ technology leadership, OPTIMA Batteries, a Clarios brand, has announced OPTIMA’s all-new lithium powersport battery line. OPTIMA’s new ORANGETOP with HYPERCORE LITHIUM battery continues the tradition of the Ultimate Power Source.
