AASA Mobility Technology Council Hosts Briefing During CES

The event provided association members and guests with insights on the future of automotive technology.

The Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association’s (AASA) Mobility Technology Council (MTC) hosted its first annual Aftermarket Briefing @ CES at the MGM Grand Convention Center during the CES trade show in Las Vegas on Jan. 8. MTC and automotive aftermarket leaders held a candid discussion on how exhibiting products and services at CES can and will affect the automotive aftermarket, how leaders on this front will convert these headwinds into new business, and the latest on the data access issue.

“As emerging technology continues to play an increasing role in the automotive aftermarket, we must ensure industry stakeholders are keeping up with and staying informed of the latest developments,” said Paul McCarthy, AASA president and COO. “Emerging technology brings many unique challenges to the aftermarket but also offers new opportunities as well. Aftermarket Briefing @ CES succeeded in helping our members better understand both sides of the equation.”

Several dozen members of the automotive aftermarket attended the event and gained invaluable insights from an agenda featuring top aftermarket experts and thought leaders.

Andrew Higashi, director with Strategy& PwC, discussed how technology will drive major changes in how vehicles are operated, serviced and utilized, and he identified key trends that aftermarket companies can use to develop meaningful business opportunities.

Chris Gardner, AASA senior vice president, facilitated a thoughtful discussion featuring observations and insights about exhibiting products and services on the CES show floor. Panelists included Joe McCorry, global vice president of ZF Group; John Waraniak, vice president, Vehicle Technology of SEMA; Brian Daugherty, chief technology officer for MEMA; and Rob Minton, associate vice president of Geotab.

McCarthy spoke about the latest developments on Your Car. Your Data. Your Choice. – an educational initiative focused on engaging car owners, policymakers and other stakeholders on the important discussion around car data – what is it, why it matters and its implications for consumer choice and a competitive marketplace.
