Trump Administration Issues Additional Tariffs On Goods From China

A 10 percent tariff will take effect on Sept. 1.

The Auto Care Association issued a member alert yesterday to announced that the Trump administration announced that the U.S. will impose a 10% tariff effective Sept. 1, 2019, on imports from China included on List 4 of the Section 301 investigation. Valued at approximately $300 billion, the List 4 investigation was previously placed on hold following President Trump and Chinese President Xi’s meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in June 2019.

The Auto Care Asssociation stated it is unclear at this time if any products have been removed from the proposed List 4 following the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative’s (USTR) investigation, including the submission of public comments and hearing in June 2019.

The tariff action is the fourth round of tariffs released by USTR in response to Section 301 investigation findings on China’s unfair trade practices related to forced technology transfer and covers essentially all imports from China that are not currently covered on a previous Section 301 list.
