Permatex was honored by the Living Legends of Auto Racing for the company’s contribution to auto racing. The company received the Allison Family Corporate Award during the Living Legends of Auto Racing 27th Annual Awards Banquet on Feb. 13. Permatex was recognized for its long and colorful history in auto racing and its many contributions to motorsports.

The award was presented during Speed Week prior to the 2019 Daytona 500. Permatex also participated in the 2019 Daytona 500 as a corporate sponsor of StarCom Racing and driver, Landon Cassill.

The 2019 award was presented by International Motorsports Hall of Fame members, Bobby and Donnie Allison, to Donny Braga, Permatex senior marketing manager. The Allison Family Corporate Award honors the memory of Bobby Allison’s late sons, Clifford and Davey. In 1973, Bobby Allison famously ran his 1968 Chevelle Late Model Sportsman for 300 miles at Talladega Motor Speedway without the use of a gasket or lock washers, relying solely on Permatex Lock-Nut to hold the vehicle’s engine together.

Accepting the award on behalf of Permatex and ITW, Braga noted, “Permatex is honored to receive The Allison Family Corporate Award from the Living Legends in Auto Racing. Permatex was founded by Constant A. Benoit Sr., who used his innovative sealants to prevent head gasket blowouts in endurance racecars back in 1915. Since its founding, Permatex has a long and storied history in motorsports, and in addition to its many activities on the NASCAR circuit, has supported many types of professional and amateur racing venues from circle tracks to drag strips to road circuits.”

Living Legends of Auto Racing was founded in 1993 in an effort to recognize, honor and promote the pioneers of beach racing and stock car racing. Today, the organization has almost 500 members from around the world and is a 501-C-3 non-profit organization. The all-volunteer Daytona Beach, Florida-based organization hosts a variety of activities throughout the year and publishes “The Cannonball,” a quarterly newsletter. The Living Legends of Auto Racing Museum of Racing History is operated in South Daytona, Florida.
