CRC Industries Acquires Weld-Aid Products

Weld-Aid Products is a manufacturer and marketer in maintenance chemicals serving the welding and metalworking business segments.

CRC Industries Inc. announces the acquisition of Weld-Aid Products, a manufacturer and marketer in maintenance chemicals serving the welding and metalworking business segments.

Located in Detroit, Michigan, Weld-Aid Products was established in 1958 as a division of the Roy Smith Welding Supply Co. and quickly realized there were opportunities to improve the efficiency of the wire feed process in the welding marketplace. Today, Weld-Aid products are designed to both clean and lubricate the wire, reducing friction as the wire is fed to the torch. A full line of welding and metal protection products are marketed, including products in zinc coatings, anti-spatter and lubricants.

Customers are served through two major selling divisions: the aftermarket division for welding- related cleaning and lubrication products and the zinc rich coatings division, specializing in products and solutions for the galvanizing and infrastructure markets.

Weld-Aid branded products include WELD-KLEEN, a coating to prevent spatter buildup; NOZZLE-KLEEN, a coating to maximize tip life; LUBE-MATIC, a coating to maximize tip and liner life; FRACSURE, YORK’S Products, BRITE Products, and galvanizing brands BRITE ZINC and Weld-Aid 1st ZINC.

Scott Grey, CEO of CRC Industries, said, “The addition of the Weld-Aid brands and products will greatly enhance our ability to meet and exceed our global mission to be the brands of first choice to our many customers within the MRO maintenance, auto repair and professional user base.”

Steve Smith, president and owner of Weld-Aid, said he is excited to see his business become part of the CRC family of brands and recognizes the opportunity for Weld-Aid products to fulfill a growth platform in the galvanizing and fabrication global markets. “It is very clear that our future depends on being integrated into a worldwide manufacturer with the platform to meet the welding channel’s needs,” said Smith. “I am very happy that we can be part of the CRC family.”

The Weld-Aid product business will become part of the CRC Americas Group led by Wayne King, president, CRC Americas.
