Bosch Technology Receives 2014 Automotive News PACE Award

The company earned recognition for its laser-drilling technology for spray enhancements in gasoline direct injection in the Product category.

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. – Robert Bosch LLC was awarded a 2014 Automotive News PACE (Premier Automotive Suppliers’ Contribution to Excellence) Award on Monday. The company earned recognition for its laser-drilling technology for spray enhancements in gasoline direct injection in the Product category.

“Bosch is honored to be recognized as a PACE Award winner and truly values this significant accomplishment,” said Mike Mansuetti, president, Robert Bosch LLC. “As an automotive innovation leader, Bosch understands the critical importance of achieving new vehicle standards and meeting consumer needs. We strive to create products that enable automakers to easily adapt to changes in the dynamic automotive landscape, and we have a great team of associates who value their customer relationships.”

HDEV5 Gasoline Direct-Injection Fuel Injectors With Laser-Drilled Spray Holes
To assist the automotive industry in complying with upcoming emission standards, Bosch developed laser-drilled spray holes as a performance enhancement to its HDEV5 gasoline direct-injection fuel injectors. According to Bosch, this latest injector offers enhanced spray quality and unprecedented levels of spray pattern flexibility. It provides automakers with the precision and customization needed for engines to meet strict emissions requirements by improving fuel atomization and reducing spray penetration. Bosch’s laser-drilling process, called ultra-short-pulse laser drilling, enables a new level of spray shape flexibility, allowing automakers to efficiently manufacture different hole diameters and shapes in one nozzle. This innovative product was first launched on the 2012 Audi A3 and in total has been launched with nine customers on 14 projects globally.

In addition to this winning entry, one of Bosch’s other technologies – NextGen Open-Source Infotainment System – was named a finalist in the Information Technology category, as previously announced last fall. Bosch developed the NextGen Open-Source Infotainment System software to support automakers in delivering in-vehicle infotainment systems that meet consumer demands with high functionality and easy integration of their mobile devices in a practical way.

“Bosch is committed to developing products that are ‘Invented for life’ and aims to shape technologies to meet consumer and automaker needs,” added Mansuetti. “We work to find innovative solutions to industry issues and create forward-looking technology to better the lives of consumers everywhere.”

Since the PACE Awards’ inception in 1995, Bosch has received seven awards. The first honor, presented for the use of post-consumer recycled material, was given in 1997.
