Visteon Launches Connected Car Technologies At 2014 International CES

Global automotive supplier will premiere advanced electronics concepts and industry collaborations and unveil new brands at the Las Vegas Convention Center Jan. 7-10.

LAS VEGAS – Visteon will present its latest automotive cockpit electronics products and innovations at the 2014 International CES, including several new concepts offering advanced connected car features and cloud-based technology for upcoming vehicle platforms.

Visteon’s automotive concepts explore future consumer electronics technologies to safely deliver a wider choice of information and applications to drivers and passengers through intuitive interfaces and new infotainment and connected car features, designed to deliver industry-leading performance.

Visteon also will unveil two new automotive brands – one for connected audio and infotainment, and one for instrumentation – at its display in Central Plaza No. 20.

"Visteon heads into our 15th year at CES as one of the first automotive electronics suppliers actively developing viable solutions for the rapidly converging worlds of consumer electronics and automotive technology," said Timothy Leuliette, Visteon president and CEO. "The advanced concepts launched at this year’s show set the path for Visteon Electronics to further strengthen its position as one of the world’s leading automotive electronics suppliers, positioned at the intersection of consumer electronics and the connected vehicle."

Presented for the first time at CES, Visteon’s HMeye cockpit concept features a unique user interface controlled by eye gaze and head direction data, coupled with image attribute tracking. Selection controls are retained on the steering wheel to improve response time while allowing the driver to focus on the road ahead.

Visteon’s Horizon Cockpit introduces a new application of emerging disruptive technologies using gesture recognition to operate various controls. An advanced camera system tracks and mirrors the driver’s gestures by mapping movement through a full kinematic spatial hand which, in turn, replicates the motion as a virtual hand on the cockpit’s display.

Also making its debut at the show, Visteon’s OASIS concept – an acronym for optimized, adaptable, secure, intelligent and seamless connectivity – protects the vehicle communication network by providing a secure method to connect the vehicle to the user and Cloud computing.

"As the ecosystem of consumer and automotive electronics merge, strategic collaborations are becoming essential to bringing innovative products to market quickly," said Marty Thall, president, Visteon Electronics. "Visteon works closely with a wide and diverse range of technology leaders and vehicle manufactures to deliver the next generation of connected car technologies."

An example of such a partnership will be demonstrated by Visteon’s new connected cockpit electronics solution developed in collaboration with Renault. Unveiled at the LeWeb’13 Paris event in December, Visteon’s cockpit demonstrator offers insight into ways drivers and passengers can interact with autonomous features at low speeds.

Visteon’s presence at CES will extend beyond its exhibit. Tim Yerdon, global director, innovation and design, is among the "gurus of car tech" participating in the CES panel discussion, "Just around the bend: How technology will change driving," from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at LVCC, North Hall N259. Yerdon will discuss the influence of connected car features and Cloud-based technologies on the future driving experience.
