Alan Smart, founder and owner of ATP Industries Group Ltd., Staffordshire, U.K., received the award for the company's record of innovation, product quality and contribution to the reputation of the automotive and heavy-duty remanufacturing industries.

AMSTERDAM – ReMaTecNews, the international news magazine for the automotive and heavy-duty remanufacturing industry, has announced the winner of its Remanufacturer of the Year Award for 2013: Alan Smart, founder and owner of ATP Industries Group Ltd., Staffordshire, U.K. From left to right: Fernand Weiland, APRA; William Schwarck, chairman of the jury of the Remanufacturer of the Year Award; Alan Smart, ATP, winner; Volker Schittenhelm, FIRM; Niels Klarenbeek, manager ReMaTec2013

Smart receives the award for the company’s record of innovation, product quality and contribution to the reputation of the automotive and heavy-duty remanufacturing industries.

Founded in the early ’70s, ATP remanufactures a broad range of advanced vehicle components, including automatic and manual transmissions, torque converters, hydro and electromechanical subassemblies, electronics and ABS and EMS units. It also builds its own range of test equipment. The company counts a number of big-name OEMs among its customers but also sells remanufactured products to the independent aftermarket. ATP has subsidiaries in the U.S. and China.

Instituted in 2005, the Remanufacturer of the Year award honors an individual or business that has served the automotive remanufacturing industry with distinction.

"Alan Smart has built ATP into a top-class company with strong focus on advanced technologies and innovation within the fields of transmissions, torque converters and electro-mechanical components,” said William Schwarck, editor-in-chief, ReMaTecNews, and chairman of the award jury.

"ATP offers technical expertise, innovative skills and commercial flair in equal proportions. Under Alan Smarts’ leadership, ATP has evolved into a highly respected business in which the reman industry can genuinely take pride. Alan Smart is a worthy winner of ReMaTecNews’ 2013 Award,” Schwarck added.

The award ceremony took place on Sunday, June 16, the opening day of ReMatec2013, the world’s largest remanufacturing exhibition, which runs from June 16-18 in the RAI Convention Centre, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Guest of honor at the ceremony was Doug Wolma, general manager of worldwide remanufacturing, Meritor, who presented the award to Smart. Wolma was the winner of the 2012 award during the World Remanufacturing Summit in Bayreuth, Germany, in September 2012.
