Survey Shows Aftermarket IT Spending Increased Significantly In 2012, At Faster Pace Than Other Manufacturers

Results of the survey and the topic of "IT Spend & Trends" are slated for discussion at AASA Technology Council Fall Conference on Oct. 16.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – Automotive aftermarket information technology (IT) spending increased significantly in 2012 – and at a faster pace than other manufacturers, according to results of the recent survey of aftermarket technology professionals conducted by the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) Technology Council (ATC).

“The results indicate that the primary business driver of the increased aftermarket IT spending is meeting customer needs and integrating with customers,” said Steve Handschuh, president and COO of AASA. “The aftermarket also is ahead of the curve in comparison with other industries in terms of both use and perceived value from cloud computing.”

“The ATC survey results further show that e-commerce and e-tailing growth is contributing to significant changes in aftermarket IT,” added Paul McCarthy, AASA vice president of industry analysis, planning and member services. McCarthy will present the key findings, including 2013’s major IT trends and how IT can contribute to a competitive advantage in the aftermarket at the upcoming ATC Fall Conference. The conference is slated for Sunday, Oct. 14, through Tuesday, Oct. 16, in Marco Island, Fla.

“The ATC conference agenda this year includes some of the top technology professionals in the industry, including Brent Windom, senior vice president, sales and marketing USA, Uni-Select, and Bryan Murphy, managing director of WHI Solutions and senior director of eBay,” said Chris Gardner, AASA vice president. “The conference is designed for professionals working at automotive aftermarket suppliers responsible for their company’s customer service, business support, e-commerce, information services, cataloging, forecasting, supply chain, EDI, IT/IS and Web services.”

The ATC Fall Conference 2012 is focused on the theme of “Intersection of Business & Technology.”
