Women at the Wheel: Kathleen Callahan

Women at the Wheel: Kathleen Callahan

Callahan is the owner of Xpertech Automotive in Englewood, Florida.

During the month of June, aftermarketNews will be presenting the esteemed 2024 Class of AMN’s Women at the Wheel. From trailblazers who have helped create departments and even entire companies, to those who ensure their office runs like a well-oiled machine, this year’s group of 26 is full of authentic leaders, each with a story to tell.

Mentorship and programming have united women throughout the aftermarket, serving as a springboard for them to enter the industry and grow their roles into successful careers. They are sparking change and driving results, together.

Today’s honoree is Kathleen Callahan, owner of Xpertech Automotive.

How your aftermarket career began: I began my career in the automotive aftermarket like many women do, I purchased my shop with my then husband, and mostly took care of the payroll, bookkeeping and employee records portion of things. That is, until we divorced and came to the agreement that I would purchase his shares of the business.

Proudest career accomplishment: I was asked to testify at a hearing of the House of Representative’s Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on behalf of the entire aftermarket about the critical importance of passing HR906, The REPAIR Act.

Industry support of women in the aftermarket: Over the last 20 years, I have seen the industry begin to embrace recruiting and supporting women into the aftermarket. When I first began attending things outside my shop, I used to see only one or two other women who were not spouses, and now I am seeing a greater mix of people at conferences and events. I believe the companies are seeing that women are a giant asset to our industry and that we bring incredible skillsets and sometimes different views to this industry.

In tomorrow’s edition of aftermarketNews, we’ll feature Rebecca Conway, vice president, U.S./Canada Aftermarket Marketing at Clarios.
