Beth Skove has seen a lot of positive change for women in the aftermarket during her 30 years in the industry.

“The industry has become much more diverse than it was when I first started. I was literally one of three women in the tool industry for the first 10 or 20 years of my career,” says Skove.

“I think our industry is doing a fair job keeping women invested in our industry,” Skove adds. “But I attribute a lot of that to Women in Auto Care and the SEMA Business Women’s Network, which are primarily women in the industry supporting women. I believe women should always support other women so we can encourage professional, personal growth. But I don’t think we need to focus on special things for women. The industry needs to focus on raising the professionalism of all industry participants, regardless of their gender.”

To that end, Skove, who serves as general manager – marketing, Aftermarket Division, NGK Spark Plugs (U.S.A.), says anyone who wants to have a successful career in the aftermarket needs to get involved.

“I think it’s important to get involved in industry associations and attend the meetings. Speak up to help improve the industry. I think you should always be open to learn new things about yourself, your customers, your business, your industry,” she says.
