HDA Truck Pride has Vander Haag’s as its newest member. With six locations spanning Iowa, South Dakota, Missouri and Indiana, Vander Haag’s 80-year reputation solidifies its presence in the Midwest.
John C. Vander Haag Sr. started the South Side Junkyard in 1939, a scrap iron and metal business that supported the war effort, in Sanborn, Iowa. The business grew, adapted to the needs of the marketplace and eventually took on the family name.
The company’s successful philosophy has always been “When our customers’ needs change, so do we.” Vander Haag Sr. saw the need to provide quality recycled salvaged parts in the later years of the war when new parts became more and more difficult to obtain. In 1955, John Jr. took over the business. He moved the headquarters to Spencer, Iowa, to better serve customers’ needs for parts and service. His vision has expanded under the current leadership of John M. Vander Haag, which has enabled the company to become a leader nationwide in the used truck sales, parts, service and equipment industry.
“Vander Haag’s is proud to be the newest member of the HDATP organization. We look forward to expanding our supplier base and taking advantage of all the member benefits HDATP has to offer,” said Tom Labat, purchasing manager for Vander Haag’s. “We anticipate additional growth through their network as our company continues to expand and support our customer’s needs.”
Vander Haag’s has more than 30 service technicians, with experts in Cummins, CAT, Detroit, and more. The business has 60 bays, a full-service body shop, a 55-foot paint booth, alignment rack and complete diagnostic equipment.
“We are excited to welcome Vander Haag’s to HDA Truck Pride. Their willingness to embrace change, adjust their direction and go above and beyond for their customer’s needs make them a perfect fit for the HDA Truck Pride family,” said Nikki Paschall, director of marketing, HDA Truck Pride.
