Tower Automotive is planning to let go about 30 percent of the employees at its Kendallville, Ind., plant, according to a report in the News-Sentinel of Fort Wayne, Ind. The layoffs are due to decreased orders for some of the metal vehicle components it stamps, not due to Chapter 11 related restructuring activity, the report said. The plant supplies stampings for Ford Motor Co. products including the Explorer and Explorer Sport Track. Ford Explorer sales were down 35 percent last month compared with May 2004.
