Top 8 Consumer Concerns About Self-Driving Cars

No. 1 on the list from the report “Self-Driving Vehicles, Robo-Taxis and the Urban Mobility Revolution” from the Boston Consulting Group should come as no surprise: safety.

car_road023Property Casualty 360 recently featured an article that highlighted a report titled “Self-Driving Vehicles, Robo-Taxis and the Urban Mobility Revolution” from the Boston Consulting Group that found that 58 percent of the 5,500 consumers surveyed across 10 countries would be willing to ride in a fully autonomous vehicle, although 23 percent aren’t willing to give up control to the vehicle.

Based on the report, the article looked at eight reasons drivers are reluctant to use self-driving cars:

  1. Safety concerns
  2. Need for control
  3. “Driver” error
  4. Loss of a pleasurable experience
  5. Unknown technology
  6. Traffic concerns
  7. Price tag
  8. Hackers
