In early December (2006), it was announced that German components and systems manufacturer MAHLE is looking to buy Dana’s Engine Hard Parts division. With Dana currently working to emerge from Chapter 11, the process is subject to the approval of the bankruptcy court as well as the opportunity for other parties to make a bid on the business. On Monday, we published an Executive Interview with Lee Murray, general manager of Dana’s Engine Parts Division, who shared with aftermarketNews more information on the sale of the hard parts business as well as his thoughts on the overall health of the engine management segment.

MAHLE also made the news this week with the announcement that it will buy the air intake module and air filtration business segment for combustion engines from Siemens VDO Automotive, expanding the company’s market presence particularly in North America and Asia.

Moving to acquisitions of another kind, Mindshare Technologies, a provider of real-time customer feedback solutions, has hired aftermarket veteran Lonnie Mayne as its new executive vice president of sales. Mayne, who joins the company from Affinia, will oversee the company’s sales efforts worldwide.

AMN readers were also very interested to learn this week about a new product from WHI (formerly Wrenchead). The company has announced the release of Nexpart | Estimator, a new web-based solution combining current and comprehensive aftermarket parts application catalog and labor times with Nexpart, WHI’s e-commerce solution.

And rounding out the top five most read stories of the week was news from National Pronto Association. The Texas-based program group welcomed four new members to its ranks this month: Rowerdink, Inc.; General Automotive Supply/Gunnar’s Auto Supply; Star Sales & Service; and Action Automotive, Inc./Brandywine Auto Parts to the group.
