As is the case with several parts categories, with water pumps shops responding to Counterman magazine’s 2010 Professional Automotive Repair Technician Survey (P.A.R.T.S.) say that brand is very important. Seventy-nine percent of respondents only use a brand they trust.
Shops that participated in PARTS say they perform an average of four jobs each month requiring water pumps. Eleven percent said they keep the part in stock. When it comes time to re-order, a shop’s primary source is the jobber (50%). In addition, shops say they count on their "first call" sources for their great sales reps (35%), availability (33%) and fast delivery (28%).
These and other statistics can be found in P.A.R.T.S., produced annually by Counterman magazine. Ten years ago, Counterman began surveying repair shops annually to determine when, how and why they source specific automotive parts and products. The resulting data, published every fall, offers perspective on how sourcing and brand-loyalty trends have changed.
