It appears that age plays at least some part in the amount of money consumers are willing to spend maintaining their vehicles, according to the latest data from IMR Research.
The percentage of survey respondents who said they "strongly agree" with the statement "I try to spend the least amount of money possible maintaining my vehicle," were the highest among respondents 30 years of age or younger. This was true whether they classified themselves as DIY or DIFM consumers.
In contrast, the percentage of respondents who said they "strongly disagreed" with that same statement was highest among consumers age 60 years or older. It was also consistent among both DIY and DIFM consumers.
