SURVEY RESULTS: Sixty Percent Say Their Holiday Spending Was Down This Year

A mere 14 percent of generous gift givers said they spent more this year on holiday gifts.

Last week, after being inundated with heavy headlines about the auto industry bailout, the flailing stock market and the troubled economy, we decided to lighten things up a bit. For last week’s AMN Poll, we asked: “Was your total household spending on holiday gifts higher, lower or the same compared to 2007?”

According to our survey results, 60 percent of respondents said they spent less on holiday spending this year, as compared to 2007. A mere 14 percent of generous gift givers said they spent more and just a little more than one-quarter of respondents said they spent the same as last year. We hope you weren’t among those who found more coal than candy in your stockings this year!
