From Tire Review
Sumitomo Rubber Industries will debut a 100 percent fossil fuel-free tire at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show, slated for Nov. 23 to Dec. 1. The tiremaker added it will begin selling the tire at the same time.
A special site dedicated to the Enasave tire will launch on Dunlop’s homepage as a precursor to the release. The site will feature information on the 100 percent fossil fuel-free tires.
Since 2001, Sumitomo started working on the development of fossil fuel-free tires in order to minimize the dependency on resources such as petroleum or coal, according to the tiremaker. In 2006, the company released Enasave ES801, which was made from 70 percent non-fossil resources; in 2008, the Enasave was 97 percent fossil fuel-free.
A prototype for the 100 percent fossil fuel-free tire was showcased at the 2011 Tokyo Motor Show.
