SEMA Exhibitors to Select Booth Space; Paint Section Added to Show

Deadline for rental agreements fast approaching.

DIAMOND BAR, Calif. — Exhibitors that want to take part in the 2009 SEMA Show priority space selection process have until May 8 to submit their exhibit space rental agreements. The deadline, which is typically in early April, was set a month later than previous years to give exhibitors additional time to plan for the show.

The SEMA Show takes place Tuesday-Friday, Nov. 3-6 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

“The SEMA Show is the best place for manufacturers to promote their new products and connect with buyers,” said Peter MacGillivray, SEMA vice president of events and communications. “It very well may be the best investment manufacturers can make in terms of what they get out of it and the value they receive.”

Committed to ensuring exhibitor success at the 2009 event, organizers launched an unprecedented number of new programs and promotions, such as moving the exhibit contract deadline back one month. Other programs include increasing the number of quality buyers at the show through outbound phone calls, negotiating rock-bottom room rates at hotels throughout Las Vegas and enhancing the electronic match making program that enables buyers and sellers to connect with one another efficiently and effectively.

The 2009 SEMA Show will include a new section dedicated to paint and related equipment. Located in North Hall, the new section will feature manufacturers of vehicle paint, prep stations, paint booths, body work, frame machines, spray guns and safety/filtration/breathing apparatus. It also will have related accessories, equipment, systems, coating/refinishing products, services and publications.

“We’re excited to dedicate a section of the SEMA Show to this important segment of the industry,” said MacGillivray. “This is a core element of the industry that touches all market niches.”

The paint, body and equipment section is one of two new sections being added to the SEMA Show. With 2,000 companies exhibiting at the annual event, the show floorplan is sectionalized so that it’s simple and easy for attendees to navigate the nearly 2-million-square feet convention center.

“The sectionalized SEMA Show floorplan is one of many ways we help buyers connect with the right exhibitors,” said MacGillivray. “It’s also an easy way for buyers to discover cross marketing opportunities.”

Other SEMA Show floor sections are: business services, hot rod alley; mobile electronics & technology; powersports & utility vehicles; racing & performance; restoration marketplace; restyling & car care accessories; tires, wheels & equipment (sponsored by TIA); tools & equipment; trucks, SUVs & off-road; and OEM.

The paint section is a direct response to feedback organizers received from both buyers and sellers, said MacGillivray.

“We definitely know that our existing customers have an interest in this area,” MacGillivray commented about paint and paint-related products. He also noted that the 2009 SEMA Show will include educational programs and networking opportunities targeted to those interested in the vehicle paint market.

Do you speak spark plug? Most part numbers are a meaningless series of numbers and letters. But spark plugs have a language on the side of the box that can tell you what’s inside. Like any other language, there are dialects.

The nomenclature of spark plug part numbers can tell you everything from size (diameter and reach) to what materials are on the center and ground electrode. Like learning a new language, knowing how to translate spark plug numbers can open up a new way to inventory and sell spark plugs for counter professionals.
