RMA Sees 2.2 Percent Jump in Tread Stock Shipments

The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) said that economic growth and a strong demand for off-the-road tires will fuel a 2.2 percent boost in tread rubber shipments for 2005 – up considerably from 2004’s 1.5 percent hike.

RMA cited “continued strength in construction, increases in the number of trucks, expansion in the manufacturing sector and positive freight trends” as reasons for the increase and said that growth will be sustained “through 2006 and 2007 at an annualized rate of 2 percent.”

The 2005 increase is the third straight jump in tread stock shipments, RMA said, which should bring total retread production in at 16.1 million total units.
