Quality Is Top Consideration for Repair Shop Equipment Purchases, According to New AAIA Report

Quality is the most important factor for repair shop owners, service managers and technicians when it comes to purchasing shop equipment, according to the "2004/2005 Equipment Purchasing Trends," a new market research report published by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA). Quality remained at the top for both past and planned purchases. Service, warranty, price and availability were each rated as less significant considerations when selecting equipment, said AAIA.

BETHESDA, MD — Quality is the most important factor for repair shop owners, service managers and technicians when it comes to purchasing shop equipment, according to the “2004/2005 Equipment Purchasing Trends,” a new market research report published by the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association (AAIA).

Quality remained at the top for both past and planned purchases. Service, warranty, price and availability were each rated as less significant considerations when selecting equipment, said AAIA.

“With the image of the auto service a constant concern for businesses in the aftermarket industry, it’s encouraging to see that the professionals in the shops rate quality over service, price and availability when deciding on what equipment to purchase,” said Kathleen Schmatz, AAIA president and CEO.

The “Equipment Purchasing Trends” report is part of an annual series of surveys that AAIA conducts. The report is based on a survey of repair shop owners, service managers and technicians. On alternating years, the association collects data on equipment purchasing trends and tool purchasing trends.

The 46-page report is available (print format only) to AAIA members for $95 and $195 for non-members. To purchase the report, contact AAIA at 301-654-6664 or www.aftermarket.org.
