WARRENVILLE, IL — The Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) has bestowed its highest award for outstanding wellness programs upon International Truck and Engine Corp., citing the company’s results-oriented approach and commitment to employee health.
The Platinum Award is the culmination of International’s distinguished record of outstanding wellness programs. From 2000 through 2005, International won six consecutive regional Gold Awards from WELCOA.
“The key to our success lies in the incredible support we have from our top leadership and the commitment our organization has to continually improve our programs,” said Evelyn Tin-Gluting, wellness and behavioral health manager at International Truck and Engine Corp. “This coveted award validates the determination we have to enhance the lives of all our employees, both in the workplace and at home.”
International offers its employees a wide range of health and well programs, including an annual health risk appraisal; an employee assistance program; flu immunization; programs on smoking-cessation and fitness; and nutrition incentives, among others. International also offers employees with help on disease management and research on health issues.
“International Truck and Engine defines the characteristics we look for when searching for companies that encompass successful workplace wellness programs,” said David Hunnicutt, president of WELCOA. “By valuing their employees, recognizing the need for health programs and securing vested interest from internal management, International displays a commitment we are only too happy to award with this honor.”
An unusual hallmark of International’s approach to employee health is that local volunteer teams–including union and nonunion employees–choose and run the specific programs at 26 locations. An Executive Wellness Council, which includes members of the company’s top leadership, oversees all of the programs.
