MISSION VIEJO, CA — Georgia parts distributor, Powertrain Inc. of Savannah, has reported a 25 percent growth in the company’s billed labor time since it began using DST Inc.’s DSTWare Service module to manage both its parts distribution and service business.

In addition to its parts distribution warehouse, the firm operates a state-of-the-art 20,000-square-foot service facility offering drivetrain and hydraulic system troubleshooting and repair; transmission, differential, and driveshaft rebuilding and repair; clutch installations; and flywheel resurfacing. A husband and wife team, Terry and Angela Durrence, have owned and operated the business for the past seven years and have utilized DSTWare for the past three years.

With 33 percent of its business mix consisting of service, the Durrence’s have said they attribute this growth to the software’s ease of use.

“The flexibility and modularity of DST’s work order management system allowed us to accurately and profitably estimate and invoice jobs without overlooking overhead costs that cut into margin,” said Terry Durrence. “It allows us to tailor the system to suit our needs and recognize different labor rates for different circumstances, such as for internal, customer and warranty rates. We recognized the need and opportunity to provide our customers with repair and installation services and needed the technology that DST offers to implement our business plan.”

“The accuracy of the system helps us keep our inventory under control and provides our customers with professional, comprehensive estimates and invoices,” said Durrence’s wife, Angela. “The increase in billed labor directly impacts an increase in overall margin. We can spend more quality time communicating with our customers because our workdays aren’t consumed by administrative tasks and the drudgery of searching for information that is now at our fingertips.”

“Powertrain Savannah exemplifies the growing trend in the parts distribution business of adding repair and installation services as an additional profit center,” said DST President Ray Stover. “Excellent management and vision coupled with the best of breed technology makes that possible. DST is committed to providing our customers with the technology tools needed to achieve their business goals.”
