Gentex Earnings Dip Slightly
The cost to implement manufacturing upgrades, soft automotive production in North America and Europe and persistent pricing pressures from automakers combined to push Gentex Corp.’s quarterly earnings down slightly. The Zeeland, Mich.-based automotive supplier recently reported a 2 percent earnings decline on a 7 percent sales gain for the third quarter that ended Sept. 30.

Gentex Uses Foreign Sales To Boost U.S. Market
At a time when so much focus is on job losses to overseas markets, Gentex Corp. is growing business and jobs at home on the strength of sales to foreign automakers in Asia and Europe. Gentex’s sale of auto-dimming automotive mirrors to foreign-based automakers has surpassed sales to customers in North America during 2004. Overseas shipments accounted for slightly more than half of mirror sales during the first six months of the year and 51.6 percent of the 3 million mirrors shipped during the second quarter alone.
Gentex to Break Ground on New Facility
Gentex Corp. will break ground on its new technology center and manufacturing facility on Monday, August 2. The new facility will nearly double Gentex’s mirror manufacturing capacity and provide office, meeting and testing space for its engineering and research & development teams. The company estimates that it will add more than 600 jobs over the next five years, as a result of the expansion.
Gentex Named to BusinessWeek’s List of Hot Growth Companies
Gentex Corporation, the Zeeland, Mich.-based manufacturer of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and commercial fire protection products, has once again been named to Business Week’s “Hot Growth Companies” list, which ranks the 100 fastest-growing publicly traded companies. It’s the fifth time in six years that Gentex has made this prestigious list.
