The Car Care Council Women’s Board has announced that Julia Johnson of San Francisco, CA, is the recipient of the 2006 Women’s Board $2,000 post-secondary scholarship. Johnson will be recognized during the Women’s Board reception on Tuesday, Oct. 31, at the Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo (AAPEX) in Las Vegas, NV.

Meineke Changes Name

A recent article from the Charlotte Business Journal reports that Meineke Holding Company has changed its name to Driven Brands Inc. The holding company serves as parent to three businesses including, Meineke Car Care Centers; Tortal.net, a Web-based training company; and Aero-Colours Inc., a Minneapolis-based marketer of airbrush auto repairs.

Be Car Care Aware PSA to Air During Meineke Car Care Bowl

While college football teams learned where they would be playing bowl games as a reward for a successful season, the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign also learned it will be making its own bowl game appearance. The Car Care Council’s 30-second “Be Car Care Aware” public service announcement (PSA) will air during the national broadcast of the Meineke Car Care Bowl on Dec. 31 on ESPN2 once each half.

Business Development Firm Invests $127 Million in Meineke Car Centers

Allied Capital Corp., a Washington, DC-based business development firm has invested $127 million to finance a management-led recapitalization of Meineke Car Care Centers, Inc. Allied Capital’s investment took the form of senior debt, second lien debt, subordinated notes and non-voting common equity. Management re-invested a significant portion of its equity ownership in the transaction.

CTNA Drops Sponsorship of Continental Tire Bowl; Meineke Takes Over Sponsorship

Continental Tire North America (CTNA) has dropped its sponsorship of the Continental Tire Bowl, ending a three-year run as title sponsor after its contract with Raycom Sports ended Dec. 30, 2004. The Continental Tire Bowl, held in CTNA hometown of Charlotte, N.C., had been a showcase promotional event for the tiremaker. Meineke Car Care Centers, also based in Charlotte, signed on to take over title sponsorship of the event, which has been renamed the Meineke Car Care Bowl. Financial terms of the three-year contract were not disclosed.

Meineke Raises $43,000 for Children’s Miracle Network

Charlotte, NC-based Meineke Car Care Centers recently donated more than $43,000 to the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) during the charity’s Annual Broadcast on June 5th and 6th. Now in its 7th year as a CMN sponsor, the Meineke chain has contributed more than $500,000 to Children’s Miracle Network, which supports children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada.
