Walker Exhaust Announces Continuing Coverage Expansion

Tenneco has announced an ongoing product coverage expansion that will bring more than 600 new exhaust/emission control part numbers to the Walker exhaust product line throughout 2008. Tenneco has invested in well over 1,600 new exhaust/emission control SKUs since 2004. Unlike traditional annual coverage introductions provided by some aftermarket manufacturers, Tenneco and Walker will roll out hundreds of new exhaust/emission SKUs on a quarterly basis next year. According to the company, this new capability was the result of its continued investment in product development resources to help customers re-energize their exhaust/emissions businesses.

Dayco Products’ Dennis Welvaert Named New AASA Chairman; New Board Members Elected

Dennis Welvaert, president, North American aftermarket division, Dayco Products LLC., Tulsa, OK, took office as chairman of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA) Board of Governors at the board’s Nov. 8 board meeting in Chicago. Welvaert is a 37-year veteran in the automotive industry. His career started with Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. where he held various technical positions in research and development before moving into the OEM Sales division.

Northwood University to Honor Seven Aftermarket Professionals

Northwood University will honor seven automotive aftermarket leaders with its annual Automotive Aftermarket Education Award on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas. The awards will be presented during a luncheon at the annual Automotive Aftermarket Products Expo Show (AAPEX). Northwood’s Automotive Aftermarket Education Award recognizes leaders for their contributions to the educational process in the automotive aftermarket field. The award was created to insure that these individuals receive national recognition for their efforts to improve education inside and outside the industry.

Monro Muffler Brake Second Quarter Net Income Up 16.2 Percent

Monro Muffler Brake has announced financial results for its second quarter ended Sept. 29. Sales for the second quarter of fiscal 2008 increased 4.4 percent to a record $112 million from $107.3 million in the second quarter of fiscal 2007. Comparable store sales increased 2 percent, exceeding the company’s revised estimate of 1 percent as provided in its business update. In other company news, Monro has renewed its employment agreement with Robert Gross, chairman, president and chief executive officer. The contract has a term of five years.

Tenneco Wins New North American Aftermarket Business

Tenneco has won new aftermarket business in the third quarter, which in total will generate nearly $11 million in incremental revenue. The contracts include new ride control business with an affiliate of one of Tenneco’s largest customers in North America. This new business was previously serviced by a competitor. In addition, the company won business with four new customers for ride and/or emission control products.

Jay Burkhart, senior vice president, global aftermarket, of Federal-Mogul Corp., has been elected to the Board of Governors of the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA). “We are very pleased to have Jay join the AASA Board of Governors.
