Monro Muffler Brake Announces Record First Quarter 2009 Financial Results

Monro Muffler Brake has announced record financial results for its fiscal 2009 first quarter ended June 28. Sales for the first quarter of fiscal 2009 increased 11.8 percent to a record $120.4 million compared to $107.6 million for the first quarter of fiscal 2008. The company said sales were positively impacted by strong in-store execution, a 2.5 percent comparable store traffic increase driven by effective advertising programs and additional price increases in certain product categories.

WORLDPAC’s Steve Sharp Elected CAWA Secretary

The California/Nevada/Arizona Automotive Wholesalers’ Association (CAWA) board of directors has elected Steve Sharp of WORLDPAC to the position of secretary to the board. Sharp currently serves as the executive vice president of enterprise brand management for WORLDPAC and is based in Newark, Calif. Bosch Celebrates 30th Anniversary of ABS

Bosch is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the pioneering automotive antilock braking system (ABS), a landmark contribution to driving safety. Developed by Bosch and first introduced in 1978, ABS has paved the way for electronic stability control systems. Since Bosch introduced electronically controlled ABS to the automotive market, this groundbreaking technology has become the basis for all modern brake regulating systems. Today, nearly 75 percent of vehicles are fitted with ABS. Bosch systems such as the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) and the Traction Control System (TCS) that are based on ABS are now successfully embraced by the world’s motorists.

Meagher Appointed VP of Sales for Peterson Manufacturing; Schmidt to Succeed Meagher as President, Transworld Products

Peterson Manufacturing Co. has named Steve Meagher as its new vice president of sales. He succeeds Art Richardson, a well-known industry figure who is retiring after more than 41 years with the company. No effective date has been announced for the move, as Meagher will be transitioning into his new role over the next several months. Richardson will stay on during this period to ensure a smooth transition of duties. In a related move, Peterson announced that Steve Schmidt will assume Meagher’s duties as president of Transworld Products. Currently serving as Transworld’s senior merchandise manager, Schmidt has more than 25 years of sales and marketing experience in the automotive aftermarket.
