Overheard: Most Popular DIY Automotive Projects

In the 2020 PARTS survey, we asked DIY mechanics what jobs they did on their vehicles. 79% said they changed wiper blades, while 75% said they changed oil and filters, and 75% said they changed batteries. 56% said the changed spark plugs and 53% said they did brake jobs. Remember that these percentages are not from the total population, but from those people who work on their own cars. According to the Auto Care Association, the do-it-yourself sector makes up about 20% of auto care sales.
