Overheard: E-Commerce as a Percentage of Sales Ticks Upward

Ever since the lockdowns, e-commerce has been far above the long-term trend.

Data Did You Know: E-commerce as a percentage of total retail sales inched back up in the second quarter of 2022, to 14.5%. That’s the same as it was in the fourth quarter of 2021, during the Christmas season, and up two tenths of a percent from the first quarter of 2022. Ever since the lockdowns, e-commerce has been far above the long-term trend as shown by the dotted line in the chart, which means lots of delivery vehicles out covering the last mile.
