Overheard: Diesel in Distress

The price of diesel fuel hit records in many parts of the country this week.

You probably noticed that after a dip, the price of gas has jumped again. More significantly, the price of diesel fuel hit records in many parts of the country. The U.S. average price made another jump this week, up to $5.50 a gallon. Given that almost all goods in the U.S. are moved via diesel fuel in trucks, trains and cargo ships, this is another indication that inflation may not be transitory.
