SHANGHAI, China — NUCAP Industries has announced a new investment in China, having installed specialized presses and tooling in its plant in the Jiading district of Shanghai for the application of the NRS mechanical retention system on disc pad backing plates.
Effective immediately, NUCAP China is in a position to take commercial orders for backing plates with NRS technology, as well as to apply NRS technology to third party plates on behalf of its customers.
The objective of this investment is to support NUCAP’s global customers that have located friction manufacturing operations in China and the broader Asian market, as well as to introduce the NRS technology to the local China market and domestic producers of friction products.
With this new capacity, NUCAP and its licensees now offer NRS manufacturing capability in Canada, Denmark, Spain, Japan, Thailand and China. Discussions also are currently under way for NRS operations in India and Brazil.
By having NUCAP China apply NRS, the company says its customers can now sell product from China in North America and Europe in compliance with all foreign patents. This allows NUCAP customers to take advantage of the most effective mechanical attachment technology available in the market today, yet eliminates any patent infringement issues.
The NRS process can be applied on any backing plate; standard FMSI/WVA numbers, passenger and commercial vehicles, any industrial applications, any custom plate designs or specific customer supplied plates. There are more than 100 million sets currently using the NRS technology worldwide.
NRS will outperform the standard IM backing plate in both NVH and overall lifecycle, according to NUCAP. NRS prevents a common failure of many plates called “delamination” and “edge-lift,” where the friction material separates from the backing plate due to the breakdown of the adhesive bond.
Delamination or any type of edge-lift creates a vibration, causing excessive brake noise. As the bond further deteriorates, the pad will require a replacement well before the bulk of the friction is used. NRS prevents delamination and edge-lift and allows the brake pad to be run down to the last millimeter while still delivering 100 percent braking power.
According to NUCAP, NRS/zinc plated plates revolutionize the plate and friction manufacturing process to allow for a brake pad that is more environmentally friendly, performs better and reduces costs at the friction manufacturing level by eliminating processes such as shot blasting, washing, adhesive application and painting.
