NHTSA Investigating Ford Service Jack Failures

The agency is reacting to consumer complaints that the service jacks, used in changing to a spare tire in an emergency situation, can suddenly break, allowing the vehicle to fall and potentially injure users.

From Tire Review

NHTSA has opened an investigation of alleged failure of car jacks on certain Ford Motor Co. minivans.

The agency is reacting to consumer complaints that the service jacks, used in changing to a spare tire in an emergency situation, can suddenly break, allowing the vehicle to fall and potentially injure users.

Impacted are an estimated 205,600 model year 2004 and 2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans. NHTSA is investigating to determine if a safety defect exists, and said it has received five consumer complaints and one notification from Ford of another complaint.
