New Jersey State Assembly Passes Right to Repair Legislation; Passes Assembly 49-22

Senate runs out of time.

TRENTON, N.J. – The New Jersey General Assembly has passed its state version of the Right to Repair Act by more than a two-to-one margin, advancing the bill farther than ever before, according to proponents of the bill.

The N.J. Right to Repair Act is supported by a diverse coalition which includes: The New Jersey Gasoline, Convenience Automotive Association (NJGCA); Alliance of Automotive Service Providers – NJ (AASP-NJ); National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB-NJ); AAA Clubs of NJ; NJ Citizen Action; NJ Retail Merchants Association (NJRMA); and the Property Casualty Insurers Association.

In opposition to the legislation this year were nearly a dozen local unions, which expressed concern about the legislation’s potential impact on safety, jobs and the economy.

New Jersey motorists will have to wait for the bill to be reintroduced and work its way through the legislative process as the New Jersey Senate ran out of time before taking up the legislation.
