RACINE, WI — Modine Manufacturing Co. has been selected as the first company to receive state funding for a new worker training program. The program, funded through the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development, has $1 million in funds available this year.

Of the $1 million in funds available this year, Modine has been awarded a grant of $45,000. The company said it will invest an additional $34,000 in curriculum and training equipment for the project, which will include training on new technology for staff members and cross-training for the hourly workforce.

Modine has also received an On the Job Training (OJT) grant through the South Central Tennessee Career Center, with $4,000 of the funds in place and the potential for a total of $10,000. The Career Center, part of the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development, provides employment readiness and training for workers and brings potential employees and employers together to fill job openings.

For the first six months, a portion of the OJT workers’ salaries will be reimbursed by the Career Center. This will enable Modine to add new employees at a lower cost while they go through a training period to become fully productive. The workers benefit by receiving training that makes them valuable employees — plus, they get paid a competitive salary during their on-the-job training, said Modine.
