Mexico Legal Challenges and Opportunities: Notary Perspectives

Rodrigo Quiñones Illades discusses how a notary in Mexico is assigned and whether they can serve as advisors, too, among other related topics.

Rodrigo is Notary Public, and a dedicated legal professional based in Mexico. As a Notary Public, he plays a pivotal role in certifying and authenticating legal documents, and ensuring their compliance with Mexican legal standards. This includes drafting and executing contracts, deeds, powers of attorney, and other crucial documents that require notarization. He is a graduate of Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), where he developed a solid foundation in legal theory and practice, and the Universidad Panamericana, where he enriched his expertise in law and understanding of legal processes.

In the 9-minute audio interview, Rodrigo discusses the following questions:

  • What is a Notary in Mexico?
  • How is a Notary assigned, and how does it differ from Notaries in (for example) the US (or other countries)?
  • Are notary advisors as well? Do they have clients, and do they charge for advisory services?
  • When a foreign automotive company wants to establish operations in Mexico, how is a Notary going to help?
  • How does a notary work with a company, what do they request from a Notary?
  • What are costs associated with the different responsibilities a notary has?
  • I understand notaries in certain cases are responsible for tax withholding/payment, is this correct?
