MEMA Partners With European Auto Parts Association To Foster Stronger Transatlantic Business Links

MEMA and CLEPA also will assist each other with member companies' participation in exhibitions, conferences and industry events held in their respective regions.

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. – The Motor & Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with CLEPA, the European association representing automotive parts suppliers, to boost growth and jobs in the motor vehicle parts supplier industry between the two global markets.

"We are delighted to formalize the long-standing relationship and spirit of cooperation that MEMA has enjoyed with CLEPA formany years,” said Steve Handschuh, MEMA executive vice president and chief operating officer. “This MOU will benefit the members of CLEPA and the MEMA market segment affiliate associations: Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), Heavy Duty Manufacturers Association (HDMA), Motor & Equipment Remanufacturers Association (MERA) and Original Equipment Suppliers Association (OESA).”

“Together with MEMA, we have set new ambitious goals to foster cooperation and coordination in the transportation sector," said Jean Marc Gales, CLEPA CEO. “Achieving greater transatlantic technical and regulatory cooperation will create new market opportunities and set down the foundations for future growth, competiveness and job creation.”

The MEMA/CLEPA MOU will foster cooperation and coordination of activities between the two geographic regions in general and the respective members of the two associations in particular. The two associations will explore the possibilities for increased trade and technological cooperation between members. MEMA and CLEPA also will assist each other with member companies’ participation in exhibitions, conferences and industry events held in their respective regions.

Both associations say they recognize the importance and the potential for the expansion of bilateral trade and investment in the motor vehicle parts supplier industry to address obstacles to free and fair trade, through the dismantlement of tariffs and the elimination of non-tariff barriers.

"We look forward to continuing this important partnership as we collaborate to enhance the transportation industry trade relationship between the United States and the European Union," Handschuh concluded.
