STATESVILLE, N.C. — K-Automotive Motorsports has announced that Brian Keselowski will be back on the track this Sunday, June 19 in the No. 92 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway.
Sunday’s race will also mark Keselowski’s move from Dodge to Chevy.
"Making the decision to leave Dodge and go with another manufacturer was a hard decision to make but as an owner I need to think of what is best for the team and the company and it’s what I need to do to keep racing and pay the bills, so that is why I’ve made the switch,” Keselowski said. “While I am not happy about parting ways with Dodge, I am looking forward to our new venture with Chevy. Maybe in the future I’ll be able to work with Dodge again but for right now, Chevy is the way we’ve chosen to go and I’m hopeful this will benefit all involved."
K-Automotive Motorsports also has announced the return of Melling Engine Parts as a sponsor for Keselowski’s No. 92 Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway. The Melling family has a long history in NASCAR, starting when Melling Tool owner Harry Melling sponsored Benny Parsons in 1979. The team began in 1982 with driver Bill Elliott by sponsoring Elliott’s No. 9 Ford that season. Throughout the years, the Melling’s endured the ups and downs of racing with various drivers and sponsors and ultimately closed its doors on their No. 92 race team during the 2003 season and sold their shop to Arnold Motorsports.
Now, Mark Melling, CEO of Melling Engine Parts, has agreed to a one-race sponsorship of the K-Automotive Chevrolet at MIS.
"I am pleased to help out another racing family with Michigan roots. We once had the Melling name on a K-Automotive Truck in Daytona, and this opportunity to help out again was too good to pass up."
Keselowski added, "I am really excited about bringing the Melling name back into racing and am honored to do it in the No. 92 as they used to. Hopefully this is a good sign in the right direction, and I’m hopeful to have them on board with us more in the future."
